SONJA YAKOVLEVA at Kunstpalais Erlangen

Group Exhibition:
Sonja Yakovleva
Pattern Recognition
Kunstpalais Erlangen
10.12.2022 to 05.03.2023

We are delighted to announce Sonja Yakovleva’s participation in Pattern Recognition, a group show at Kunstpalais Erlangen.

The exhibition revisites the Municipal Collection Erlangen, and examines the rich collection holdings against the backdrop of numerous upheavals in art and society since the collection’s founding years.
Pattern Recognition searches for patterns, similarities, and differences that underlie diverse artistic strategies from different generations. In the process, it becomes clear how enduringly female, queer, and non-white voices shape today’s art discourse with their perspectives.

In the exhibition, Sonja Yakovleva’s work – a newly created, large scale paper cut as well as loans from private collections – is presented together with works by pop art icon Keith Haring, whose compositions show figures, drawn quickly and evenly in one continuous line onto the ground. Although this artistic practice stands in strong contrast to Sonja Yakovleva’s delicate paper cuts, in which each line is neatly cut out, the works of both artists show remarkable connections in the subversive representation of pop cultural images and ideas.

With works by:
Monira Al Qadiri, Athanasios Argianas, Thomas Bayrle, Anna & Bernhard Blume, Martin Disler, Aleksandra Domanović, Jack Goldstein, Eugen Gomringer, Keith Haring, John Hilliard, Sofia Hultén, Fritz Koenig, Simon Lehner, Lawrence Lek, Richard Long, Frida Orupabo, Alona Rodeh, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Nora Turato, Cy Twombly, Wolf Vostell, Sonja Yakovleva

Pattern Recognition is on view from 10 December 2022 to 05 March 2023, at the Kunstpalais Erlangen, Erlangen, (DE)
