Jan
Zöller
-
born in Haslach im Kinzigtal, (DE), 1992. Lives and works in Karlsruhe, (DE)
Jan Zöller’s installations and paintings resemble a knocked-together, cosmic, comic theatre. Fires flicker, trouser legs and elbows dance, run and burn. A central motif is fountains, basins and tubs as symbols of communal places, but also of the circulation of vital energy, in human and economic relationships. In his painting, Zöller creates something new out of broken or outdated systems, which include the current art business. He reflects in painting what it means to him to be an artist. He is less interested in a dialogue with art history or other contemporary painters than in the psychosocial relationships and conditions that shape his work as an artist. In his installations, sculptures and paintings, Zöller repeatedly speaks of the dichotomy between economic production and the spiritual, magical side of art. -
